Bedtime Shadows

Shadow Monster

Set loosely to the tune of: The Itsy Bitsy Spider

A silent monster slowly spreads
up the bedroom wall.
Turn on the light
to shrink it back to small.
Turn off the light
to see the moonlight glow.
Let the silent monster grow –
we’re not scared of a shadow!

Optional actions
Silent: Put index finger in front of mouth in “shh” motion
Monster: Make monster claws
Spreads: Start low then stand up and spread out arms
Light: ASL for light OR as if flicking on a switch
Shrink: Slowly crouch down
Off: as if flicking off a switch
Moon: ASL for moon OR make hoop with hands overhead

Monkeys and Hats: Prop Story

5 Monkeys wearing hats

Story: The Hat-seller and the Monkeys
Based on The Hatseller and the Monkeys retold by Baba Wague Diakite as well as Caps for Sale retold by Esphyr Slobodkina

Need:
-fabric in orange
-construction paper in various colors: shades of brown, white
-hot glue and glue sticks
-cupcake paper cups (hat)
-beads (top of hat)
-paper towel tube
-a felt board

Participation Age Range: 18 months to 8 years old

Method: Have monkeys lined up on a ledge or stacks of books. Have all the hats stacked onto the hat-seller. May wish to use hat-seller figure as a finger puppet. Have the kids mimic like the monkeys.
Optional: May wish to place tree on felt story.
