5 Little Monkeys Eating Cake
Words and Actions by CK Emanuel
To the tune of: 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Five little monkeys eating too much cake.
HOLD UP FIVE FINGERS
ALTERNATE BRINGING HANDS TO MOUTH AS IF EATING
One got a huge bell-y-ache
HOLD UP ONE FINGER
HANDS ON STOMACH AND FROWN
Momma called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
HAND MAKES A “Y” BY HAVING THUMB AND PINKY FINGER     STICK OUT OF FIST; BRING TO EAR LIKE A PHONE
No more monkeys eating too much cake.”
SHAKE POINTER FINGER AT IMAGINARY MONKEYS

CONTINUE RHYME COUNTING DOWN FROM 4 TO 1 .

Read on for flannel board adaptation.

Participation Age: 17 months to 7 years old

Skills Utilized/Reinforced: Health (Eating Habits)

Possible Modifications: For a simpler verse and more basic actions, consider simply counting along on your fingers.

Another possibility is utilizing the flannel board. Pieces needed could be as simple as five monkeys, a large cake, a phone, and a doctor. To add a little more STEAM, make the cake so that it can separate into pieces. You can remove pieces as the monkeys “eat.” Between verses, ask the kids how many pieces are left, or, for an older crowd, it would be an excellent opportunity to bring in fractions.
