Sailor Went to Sea: Clapping Rhyme

A Sailor Went to Sea
Text Traditional; Actions Traditional

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea
To see what he could see, see, see;
But all that he could see, see, see
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea.

Age Participation: Ages 5 to 8 years ; (Modified: can be for 6 months to 5 years)

Skills Utilized/Reinforced: Fine motor skill (Clapping) ; Laterality/Directionality ; Grammar – Homophones

Possible Modifications: For younger kids this rhyme works well as a fingerplay, too. Any easy way to do so would be to use hand to make ‘waves’ for “sea” and to shield eyes with hand or make binoculars by circling eyes with fingers for “see.”
